STEUBENVILLE — A 15-year-old was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly shooting three women early Friday morning.

Kylar M. Petteway of1209 Jefferson St. called Jefferson County Juvenile Court Chief Probation Officer Fred Abdalla Jr. from the Fort Steuben Mall Friday afternoon shortly after a felonious assault arrest warrant was issued by city police.

Police Chief Bill McCafferty said Abdalla notified the police and a juvenile officer went to the mall and took Petteway into custody.

Petteway was identified as the suspect following an investigation by police detectives, according to McCafferty.

The overnight shooting in the 100 block of North Seventh Street left three women injured.

McCafferty said the three females and a male were walking along the street when multiple shots were fired from a van that came up behind them. Officers discovered 20 shell casings at the scene.

A 15-year-old female was shot in the hand and shoulder. Nikita Pearson, 20, of Steubenville was shot in the ankle and thigh, and a 17-year-old female was shot in the left thigh.

The females fled after the shooting, but came back once police arrived, police reported.

McCafferty said none of the bullet wounds was life-threatening.

Approximately two hours later, City Police received an anonymous tip that the van that might have been involved in the shooting was abandoned on Spring Avenue. Officers said the van was found without keys and the sliding door was open. Police towed the van to the police station to be processed for evidence.
