Mingo Junction is preparing for a visit from Santa Claus

MINGO JUNCTION — The village is preparing for a visit from the big man himself on Wednesday, when the 10th-annual children’s Christmas party is slated.

The event is being held at 4:30 p.m. at Hill Elementary School, 2220 Wilson Ave., and is open to children in grades kindergarten through fourth.

In addition to Santa, children will get to meet Alvin and the chipmunks and Smiley, the mascot from Eat’n Park, as well as other holiday characters.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla is scheduled to read to the children “The Night Before Christmas.”

“He read it the first time we had the party,” said organizer Jim Freiling of the Mingo Business Association. “Now it’s 10 years later, and he is back.”

Children attending the party will be treated to goodies, including cookies and treats from Pesta’s Country Store; a giant smiley cookie from Eat’n Park; and gift bags from Santa.

The party is being sponsored by the Mingo Business Association, Softite Federal Community Credit Union, Schuetz Funeral Home, Pesta’s Country Store, attorney Francesca Carinci and Eat’n Park.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by Monday to (740) 314-8965.
