Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, a group of seniors gather as part of the Hancock County Senior Wellness Center's Wii Bowling Tournament.

On Feb. 23, one of those seniors reached a milestone in bowling circles.

Helen Klakos of New Cumberland bowled a perfect 300 game.

"My grandson, Kameron, taught me everything I know about it," said Klakos, who has been a part of the tournament since its inception in 2010.

"We are attempting to attract seniors of all ages," said Sally Knabenshue, associate director of programs and services at the center. "Approximately 10,000 people reach age 65 in this country every day. We're working hard to develop activities and programs to help them remain active. Helen is very active and perfect in more ways than just her bowling skills. We love her."

Klakos, who is 78, also works at the center in the kitchen as part of the Senior Employment Program funded by the Older Americans Act.

"It is a life saver," said Klakos. "I would just be sitting home if it weren't for this place. Now, I can participate in bowling and so many other things. It's great."

The center offers a soup 'n salad lunch daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact the center at (304) 564-3801 regarding all activities and programs. The center is located at 647 Gas Valley Road, New Cumberland.
