BEATTY, Shirl Gie Jr., "Junior," 65, of New Manchester, WV, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, May 21, 2012.
Born March 19, 1947, in Steubenville, OH, a son of the late Shirl and Lelia (Chafin) Beatty Sr.
Junior retired from the railroad department, after working for 39 years at Weirton Steel and was a member of the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club.
He was a former coach for the Weirton and New Cumberland Little League baseball teams, and helped to form and coach the Huskies wrestling team. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving hunting and camping. Junior also was a big sports fan, supporting Oak Glen, WVU, the Steelers, and NASCAR.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Vickie (Kiger) Beatty, on Aug. 19, 2004.
Surviving are his second wife, Dorothy (Ockerman) Beatty of New Manchester; a daughter, Roxanne (Jim) Szymanski of New Manchester; a son, Steve Beatty of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Jaimee, Katie, Breanna, Brittany, Preston Gie and Paige; a stepson, Mark (Dee Dee) Crawford of Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Tamara (Wally) Harkcom of Louisiana; four step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two sisters, Monnie (Harry) Mack and Dorothy (Omar) Jenkins, all of Weirton.
Junior's great spirit for life, his smile and laughter that lit up a room, will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Shetty, Trinity Hospital, Tony Teramana Cancer Center and Life Line Hospital, for the excellent care.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2012. Burial will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery.
