Jefferson County Sheriff

Filled up: Someone cut the cable locking one of the gates leading into the state Route 7 construction site in Mingo Junction, Saturday. A worker said the gate was padlocked when they left work Friday but when he checked the following day, he found it had been cut. He said they found a shipping container had been opened but nothing was missing, but eventually discovered their off-road diesel storage tank had been drained of about half its fuel. The contractor reported the 250-gallon tank had just been filled and they figured up to 200 gallons had been stolen.

Open invitation: A Toronto man said he was being harassed by a Weirton man after he called the man’s wife to invite her to lunch, Monday. He told deputies the couple is in an “open relationship” and he wanted to see if she was interested but when she declined his offer, he didn’t push it, but her husband said texted that he was going to rough him up and told him to come to his house. The caller said he texted him back that they should “meet in a mutual place” but the husband said he was going to find him.

Turkey call: A woman on her way to work said she came across turkeys in the roadway in the Bergholz area and when she swerved to go around them heard “a loud pop,” Friday. She kept driving until she could pull her van over and saw what she thought was a bullet hole in her rear glass. Sheriff’s deputies said a resident living in that area reported hearing a gun shot that morning around the time she’d been driving by.

Trust issues: A Bergholz resident said he was assaulted by his wife, Saturday. He said they’d been arguing and wanted to leave so he’d called the Urban Mission, only to have her grab the phone out of his hand but he was able to get it back and call for assistance. He didn’t want to pursue charges. His wife hadn’t believed he was calling Urban Mission and asked deputies who he said he’d been calling, and when they told her he really had called she said, “Oh, OK.”

Suspicious minds: A man said someone in a burnt orange pickup keeps following him, Monday. He said he’d noticed the vehicle getting behind him several times and following him to his residence, and when he pulled in it kept going. He said on Sunday he saw the truck sitting at the end of county Road 36 and when he drove past, the driver pulled out and followed him, so he turned onto several township roads and eventually the truck driver gave up.

Feeling aggrieved: A caller reported a couple fighting in Yorkville, Sunday. Deputies said the man involved told them he’d been arguing with his father and his father threw him out of his car. He said he and his girlfriend were walking to her house when he began yelling as he told his mother all about it during a phone conversation.

Hit-skip: A Bloomingdale man said he pulled over in the parking lot at a Wintersville club so it would be easier for other drivers to leave when a woman backed into his truck. He said she was irate, arguing with him and insisting she didn’t do it before leaving the scene. Deputies went to the woman’s home but she wasn’t there.

Fraud attempted: A Bloomingdale woman said someone in Houston managed to use her debit card to rack up more than $650 in charges she didn’t authorize, Sept. 6. She said the thief made six fraudulent purchases online, but she was able to talk with the merchant, who canceled the purchases, and she canceled the debit card.

Can’t let go: A county resident said her ex is harassing her, Saturday. She said he’s texting and calling her and has been showing up at places where he knows she will be coming. Deputies advised her to get a protection order.

Fraud: A woman said someone used her credit card to make $485 in fraudulent purchases, Sunday. She said the merchant told her the items were shipped to Milford, Ohio.

Suspicious: A Backbone Ridge resident told deputies he was walking his dog when he stumbled across what he thought was evidence of a drug party, Sept. 6. He said he found beer cans, bottles, a drug scale and an empty pill container.

Booked: Damon Thomas Billingsley, 18, 225 Main St., Rayland, operating a vehicle under the influence and leaving the scene, Saturday; Miana McGaha, 31, failure to appear (Belmont County), Saturday. McGaha was cited for driving under suspension, operating a vehicle under the influence and following too closely.

Steubenville Police

Service fee: Two men fighting in the 200 block of North Seventh Street couldn’t agree on what the disagreement was about, Monday. One of them said it was over a woman, the other admitted he’d been given $50 to get the man methamphetamine but he’d kept $10 for himself.

Destructive boys: A Lawson Avenue resident said he saw two juveniles coming out of the women’s restroom at Murphy Park and when he investigated, discovered the sink faucet had been broken and they’d lit “some kind of material … on fire on the ground.”

Fired up: An officer walking through the police station parking lot spotted a homeless woman “keeping (a) fire going” behind the PeeDee’s building, Wednesday. He said the fire “was not contained, extremely close to the building and was underneath trees, burning the leaves.” Police told her the fire was a hazard and made her put it out.

On watch: A Lincoln Avenue resident told police he saw an individual in a Volkswagon Pasat dump plastic cups and other garbage in the Lincoln Avenue construction site, Tuesday. The caller gave officers the offender’s license plate number.

Sell out: A Lawson Avenue resident said her husband didn’t pay the rent while she was in the hospital and now the landlord and his wife “were giving away her (belongings.)” Police took the information and told her to follow up with civil court.

Cited: Deonbre B. Anderson, 22, 1096 Claire Ave., Steubenville, failure to signal turn. Police said Anderson was driving a rental vehicle, but his name wasn’t on the lease agreement. Warned that it would be towed if the driver who’d leased it didn’t show up, Anderson was unable to make contact, so the vehicle was transported to a secure location.
