WEIRTON — Cloak & Dagger On the Air. It is a long-running local anthology series that has been entertaining audiences for a number of years.

Those at the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau say they have been preparing for this year’s annual Halloween show, as it is something they always look forward to doing.

And that moment has finally come.

The holiday performance is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, officials announced.

Doors to the event will open at 3:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be available.

This week’s performance will include four stories from the work, “More Tales from the Inner Sanctum,” according to Pete Fernbaugh, artistic director and head writer for Cloak & Dagger On the Air.

“Our annual Halloween show is one of my favorite episodes each season,” Fernbaugh said.

“This month, we will return to the Inner Sanctum with four tales that survey the landscape of humanity’s inner darkness,” he continued, noting there will be a few “chills and thrills along the way.”

While officials finish any last-minute preparations, Troubadour R.J. Gaudio will be performing an opening set of classic pop, folk and rock favorites, Fernbaugh announced.

Gaudio’s performances will begin at 3:30 p.m.

The stories to be featured Saturday will include four stories taken from “More Tales from the Inner Sanctum.”

The first tale is entitled, “The Meek Die Slowly.” The piece focuses on an elderly gardener who becomes alarmed when his dead wife’s wedding ring is found hanging from a newly-grown dogwood tree.

The second tale to be told is that of “Skeleton Bay.”

“Skeleton Bay” features a popular mystery author who writes her best novel yet. The book comes after she becomes entangled in an elaborate plot that involves murder, betrayal and kidnapping.

Next, is the tale entitled, “The Listener.”

“The Listener” depicts a young man who discovers that his aunt has spent years lying to him about his uncle’s disappearance.

The final tale to be told will be “The Devil’s Workshop.”

This piece is based on a man who specializes in creating realistic wax figures. The man, however, suddenly receives an unusual request from a mysterious gentleman. A gentleman who claims to have no face.

“Our stories this month were originally performed on the long-running horror anthology series ‘Inner Sanctum Mysteries,'” Fernbaugh explained.

“Back in the ’40s and ’50s, Inner Sanctum was a popular franchise of movies, comic books, novels, radio shows and a television series,” he continued. “The stories are designed to hold the listener’s attention through plot twist after heightened plot twist — with each twist more absurd than the last.”

“But nonetheless, it is engaging and intriguing — much like Svengoolie, the unnamed host tells corny, pun-filled jokes and makes cheeky observations about the characters in order to keep the proceedings light and fun,” Fernbaugh said.

Cloak & Dagger On the Air: “More Tales from the Inner Sanctum,” stars the Wayward Saints.

The Wayward Saints are comprised of the following individuals: Rob DeSantis, Bethany Fernbaugh, Fernbaugh, Noah Hilton, Nancy Longo, Karissa Martin, Malachi McClendon, John E. Reilly and Dave Zanieski.

The show’s sound effects are produced by the Holy Foley Molies.

The Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau is now located at 243 Three Springs Drive in Suite 17 in Weirton.

The show recently moved its location and can now be found behind the Crazy Mexican.

Fernbaugh noted the visitors bureau is situated between By the Barrel and Weirton Pet Spa.

“We encourage folks to set aside some extra time in oder to check out the local businesses that are around us,” he announced.

“Three Springs Drive is filled with many dining establishments and several shopping opportunities,” he added.

“We hope our show can bring some traffic their way.”

Cloak & Dagger On the Air is a monthly theatrical series from the Ohio Valley Cloak & Dagger Co.

The creators state they hope to celebrate audio drama from all of the eras — particularly the fabled Golden Age of Radio.

By re-imagining classic radio dramas and literary works, along with premiering original stories written and produced by Fernbaugh, Cloak & Dagger On the Air is striving to give its audience an immersive experience which engages the theater of their imagination in creating a fully-realized, storytelling adventure.

For information and updates on the troupe’s live and recorded productions, visit the Ohio Valley Cloak & Dagger Co.’s Facebook page.

The Facebook site also will feature the livestreaming of Saturday’s performance, Fernbaugh said.

He noted that admission to attend the event is free of charge, although donations are appreciated and help to continue creating performances for the community.
