Woman’s club to meet

STEUBENVILLE — The Woman’s Club of Steubenville will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the Steeple Chase Lodge, located off of Lover’s Lane. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the group’s finances, according to officials.

Lent services to begin

Lent services will begin March 9, with messages to be given by area pastors. All services will begin at 6 p.m., with a social hour to following each, according to organizers. The following list is of some of the upcoming services: Friends Church on March 9, the Rev. Damian Williamson; Mount Moriah on March 16, the Rev. Melody Essex; Shaffer Chapel on March 23, the Rev. Craig Smith; Christian Church on March 30, the Rev. Phil Bliss; Presbyterian Church on April 6, the Rev. Maggie Hoder; and United Methodist Church on April 13, the Rev. Jim Taylor officiating.

Spring Sing-spiration set

WHEELING — The annual Spring Sing-spiration event is scheduled to be held at 3 p.m. April 27 at Wayman Church in Wheeling. The church, located at 1136 Eoff St., can be reached at (740) 310-6894 for information. The community is welcome to attend.

Resident seeking assistance

FREEPORT — A go fund me campaign has been launched to assist a Freeport woman after a tree fell onto her trailer, destroying the back portion of the structure. The campaign for Barbara Terry Hughes is being organized by her granddaughter, Emilie Brocious.

Brocious stated the home had no insurance, with the damage being an estimated $38,500 in repairs. Those interested in helping with the go fund me campaign can view pictures and donate at gofundme.com/f/repair-my-grandmas-home-after-tree-damage?cdn-cache=0.

Tai chi class offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will offer a free tai chi class, instructed by Mike Turrentine, at 11 a.m. each Monday.

A combination of gentle exercises and meditation, tai chi is designed to create harmony between the mind and body, officials stated. Registration is not required. For information, call (304) 737-1551.

Craft class offered to adults

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library is inviting adults to learn how to make a pot of tulips by using pipe cleaners and other materials. The class will be held at 11 a.m. on March 6. Participants are asked to bring along scissors and a glue gun. The class will be offered free of charge.

Dungeons & Dragons class offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will hold Dungeons & Dragons classes for students who are in middle school and high school. The classes will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday.

Classes will be taught by Daniel Melching and David Nixon, who will bring everything that is required for the game, officials said. Registration to participate is not required. For questions, e-mail Melching at melching745@yahoo.com.

Senior fitness classes offered

WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library will offer a 45-minute strength training class entitled Geri-Fit, for older adults throughout the area.

Participants will begin by lifting light weights, usually while seated, and can work at their own pace, officials commented. Attendees should bring along a set of light dumbbells, a stretch band and bottle of water. The video fitness classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Follansbee Library, located at 844 Main St.

Classes will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Brooke County Library, located at 945 Main St. Those interested in participating in the free classes should register by calling (304) 737-1551 ext. 106.

Pancake Supper planned

BETHANY — Bethany Memorial Church will sponsor a Pancake Supper from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 4 at the church, located at 299 Main St. in Bethany. The cost will be $10 and includes all the pancakes you can eat, officials said. The community is welcome to attend.

‘A Garden of Buttons’ coming to area

SUGARCREEK — Area residents can help celebrate spring by enjoying a display of thousands of “amazing, colorful buttons,” at this year’s Buckeye State Button Society’s annual “A Garden of Buttons” show. The event will be held April 5-6 at the Carlisle Inn, located at 1357 Old Route 39 in Sugarcreek.

Hosted by the Zane Trace Button Club, the show will feature displays containing hundreds of garment buttons. The buttons are dated from the 18th century through the present.

Attendes can “experience the international hobby that unites fashion, art, history, materials science and craftsmanship.” The showroom will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 6. Admission will be $5 for adults and free for children under 18. In addition to the displays of buttons, there will be buttons of all types and ages available for sale.

Susan Everett, a retired professor of horticulture and agribusiness at Clark State College in Springfield, will present the program, “The Language of Flowers,” at 7 p.m. April 5.
