Steubenville Seedlings meet
STEUBENVILLE — The 4-H group Steubenville City Seedlings met with their new panel of officers Monday. The group discussed the importance of their new positions, responsibilities and obligations.
Senior and junior officers were introduced to each other and given their duties and speaking parts for Monday’s meeting. Officials stated many of the officers were excited to have the opportunity to introduce some new ideas for their roles so as to give them additional hands-on ways to interact with members and give back to the club. “This year, we look forward to what this group will bring to the table for our club,” officials commented.
Vitalant to hold blood drives
WEIRTON — Patients in need of blood transfusions often describe the effects as immediate, according to officials with Vitalant, a nonprofit blood services provider. Vitalant is urging all eligible blood donors to give blood throughout March in order to “make a lifesaving difference.”
Officials explained all blood types are needed, with the greatest being type O, which is the most transfused and most compatible if a patient’s type in not immediately known.
March is recognized nationwide as Bleeding Disorders Awareness Month.
“Blood donations are needed not just for emergencies and acute illnesses, but for patients who have long-term health issues,” Vitalant officials commented. “The most common bleeding disorder, von Willebrand disease, affects the blood’s ability to clot and can cause excessive bleeding and pain. Among other treatments, blood donations may help those whose blood does not clot properly on its own.”
As a special thanks to donors who give between Saturday and March 31, donors will be automatically entered into a “lucky giveaway” to win one of two $5,000 prepaid gift cards.
Upcoming drives include: St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Fellowship Hall, 300 Three Springs Drive, Weirton, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 10; Brooke High School, Bruin Drive, Wellsburg, 8 a.m. to noon on March 12; and Belmont College, Dowler Hall, 68094 Hammond Road, St. Clairsville, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19.
