Purple Circle 4-H Club states plans
STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Purple Circle 4-H Club met for a special meeting Feb. 9.
The club’s newspaper reporter, Tyler Berardinelli, is a member of the youth group.
He was also named Newspaper Reporter of the Year and received an award for his accomplishments during a ceremony held by 4-H groups last year, according to officials.
He took notes throughout the event in order to put together a story and distribute an article to area media outlets.
Berardinelli hopes to inform the community as to what the 4-H group has been involved in, and what their upcoming projects are going to be.
The meeting began with attendees reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the taking of roll call.
A discussion was held regarding fundraising ideas.
Members decides upon selling chocolate-covered Oreos and chocolate-covered pretzel sticks to anyone interested in helping to support the group.
The cost is $2 each.
The 4-H club will be selling candles as well, Berardinelli announced.
The cost will be $15 per candle.
As a community service project, each of the members agreed to write a Valentine’s Day card for residents who reside in an area nursing home.
Berardinelli noted the youths of Purple Circle plan to rake the gravel from the grass at the club’s meeting location.
Additional plans include decorating the window of the Richmond Post Office, which will be done in the theme of “Preparing the Future Generation with 4-H.”
A “Toy Story” theme will be incorporated into the window display decorations, Berardinelli said.
Preparations have been made for club members to participate in a tour of a local fire department.
The tour will serve as the group’s citizenship activity.
As a club activity, members will have an opportunity to go bowling together, Berardinelli noted.
During the meeting, two of the club’s youth each performed a demonstration for their peers and those in attendance.
One of the demonstrations featured the how-to’s of writing a check, including instructions on where to sign your name and how to spell out the wording of the amount the check is for.
The second demonstration showed members how to groom a sheep.
The next meeting is scheduled to be held March 9.
