WINTERSVILLE — Area survivors of sexual assault have created an art showcase entitled “Voices Unbroken: Art as Resilience.”
An opening ceremony took place April 7 and will continue to be on display through Friday at the Center of Music and Art, located at 264 Main St. in Wintersville. The show can be seen during normal business hours. Presented by ALIVE Inc. and the Upper Ohio Valley Sexual Assault Help Center, the event’s purpose is aimed at bringing Ohio and West Virginia community members together and learning about how sexual violence survivors use art toward healing.
Officials stated these survivors are resilient.
“They are not defined by their trauma, but by their strength, their courage and their unbroken spirits,” they commented. “They continue to find ways to reclaim their voices, to tell stories and to heal — often through powerful means like art.”
April is recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. It is a time in which to raise awareness about sexual violence, to educate the community and to support survivors.
