Locals compete in Jefferson County Relays  

STEUBENVILLE — Local runners, jumpers and throwers from six area schools took to the track and field complex at Harding Stadium for the annual Jefferson County Relays on Monday evening, and each of them put athletes on the podium.

GIRLS

Big Red’s Kaycee King topped the 100 dash in 12.70, ahead of teammate Laila Reed and Indian Creek’s Gracie Klinesmith.

Creek’s Trinity Greene paced the 200 dash in a time of 26.20, while Reed and Buckeye Local’s Brooke Dirscoll were also on the podium.

Catholic Central’s Elizabeth Schmiesing paced the 400 dash in 1:02.90, topping Big Red’s Addison Snyder and Creek’s Dalana Bove.

Toronto’s Josie Dickinson was atop the podium in the 800 run, posting a winning time of 2:30.70 ahead of Central’s Mary Rohde and Big Red’s Aurbey Duggan.

In the 1600 run, it was Rohde pacing the field with a 5:49.00, ahead of Edison’s Hallie Westbrook and Layla White.

Westbrook and White were 1-2 in the 3200, Westbrook winning with a time of 14:21.00.

Buckeye Local’s Jenna DelVecchio paced the 100 hurdles in 14.90, topping Big Red’s Adrianna Crabtree and Central Natalie Cherepko.

In the 300 hurdles, DelVecchio made it a sweep with a 48.70, pacing the field ahead of Edison’s Leila Cable and Cherepko.

In the relays, Big Red’s 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 units all claimed victories. In the 4×100 the unit of Za’Herryah Herring, Reed, Adrianna Crabtree and King turned in a 51.60. In the 4×200, Cianna Scurry, Crabtree, Reed and King went 1:49.00. And in the 4×400, the unit of Natalie Romanyak, Duggan, Snyder and Crabtree went 4:22.40.

Edison’s unit of Maya Filburn, Cable, Alison Kireta and Kennedy Baker went 11:00.46 in the 4×800.

In the field events, Big Red’s Alivia Vostatek went 5-00.00 to top the high jump ahead of Rohde and Edison’s Lacie Pelley; Clinesmith went 15-02.00 in the high jump to win the event ahead of Snyder and Buckeye Local’s Brooke Kovalski; Big Red’s Phynyx Fleming topped the shot put with a throw of 34-05.00 ahead of teammate Sarah Ostovich and the Panthers’ Morayo Odeyinka; and in the discus, Big Red’s Bri Hudson threw 135-02.50 to top Fleming and Toronto’s Adalyn Ohalek.

BOYS

Big Red’s Jalen Minniefield topped the 100 dash in a time of 11.50, edging Edison’s Brett Worrels and Creek’s Jailee Moore.

In the 200 dash, Steubenville’s Colton Henderson paced the field in 23.90 ahead of Toronto’s Brady Fair and Edison’s Andrew Kirkman.

In the 400 dash, Big Red’s Jemier Faulks went 53.20 to pace the field ahead of Fair and Big Red’s Landon Bowers.

In the 800 run, Zaire Scurry gave Big Red another victory with a 2:12.00, topping Toronto’s Landon Grimes and Central’s Joe Owen.

In the 1600, it was Ohio State signee Andrew Rohde of Catholic Central picking up the win in 4:48.00 ahead of Creek’s Andrew Graves and Edison’s Blaine Hoobler.

In the 3200, Andrew Rohde made it a sweep of the distance events in 9:48.00, topping Big Red’s Owen O’Brien and Edison’s Brock Koehnlein.

In the 110 hurdles, Big Red’s Josiah Rea went 15:90 to lead the field topping Edison’s Matt Evans and Nathan Green.

In the 300 hurdles, Evans won in 42.40 pacing Big Red’s Orlando Anderson and Green.

In the relays, Big Red won the 4×100, 4×200 and 4400 and came a half a second short of sweep in the 4×800.

In the 4×100, the unit of Colton Henderson, Jaden Smith, Nizjee Feaster and Minniefield went 47.10, in the 4×200 the unit of Cajuan Bryant, Minniefield, Faulks and Rea went 1:49.00 and in the 4×400 the unit of Faulks, Rea, Bryant and Scurry went 3:43.20.

In the 4×800, Toronto’s unit of Robert Koehnlein, Fair, Stephen Jenkins and Grimes went 8:47.70, just .50 of a second better than Big Red’s 8:48.20 from Obrien, Tommy Lucas, Anderson and Bowers.

In the field events, Rea topped the high jump in 6-03 ahead of Central’s James McInnis and Worrells; Buckeye Local’s Shane Griffith topped the long jump in 19-07.50 ahead of Kirkman and Worrells; Big Red’s Travell Swift won the shot put with a throw of 43-07.00 to top Creek’s George Zadanski and Edison’s Zac Kuntz; and Zadanski won the discus with a 136-10, topping Edison’s Ronald Hinerman and Toronto’s Steven Ohalik.
